Nominate your hero

Great things happen because great people get involved in their community. You have a chance to recognize the remarkable community leaders you know by nominating them for the 2009 Western Legacy Awards.

The Western Legacy Awards honour individuals and organizations who demonstrate significant achievement in promoting western values and preserving our western heritage within the community. The awards are presented in three categories: sustained contribution, innovation and youth.

“There are many people and groups who have made significant contributions that strengthen our communities,” says Tracey Read, Government Relations and Strategic Partners manager for the Calgary Stampede. “These special awards recognize people who are building communities and leaving a legacy.”

New for 2009, the awards committee is working with Shaw Cablesystems, which will broadcast this year’s awards ceremony Alberta-wide and then re-broadcast it on Shaw TV in Calgary throughout November and December.

“It is exciting to have Shaw Cablesystems as a community partner,” says Read. “The Stampede and Shaw are both happy to be able to increase the awards’ profile and further showcase our amazing local heroes.”

The Calgary Stampede Western Legacy Awards are entering their fifth year. Deadline for nominations is July 31, 2009. Click here for more details.
