Stampede wins rodeo "Jack" pot

Chair of the Rodeo committee, Jack Scheider, has been volunteering at the Calgary Stampede for over 10 years.

When Jack Schneider took the reins as chair of the Rodeo committee in September, he knew it would be a busy time. With the inaugural fall event – the Canadian Rodeo Tour Championship – just around the corner, he and the whole committee have been working at a breakneck pace to ensure fans are thrilled with the new event.

“It’s an exciting time for rodeo,” says Schneider. “Our committee, the Stampede rodeo office and many other departments and committees are totally focused on putting on a really great show for both athletes and spectators. It’s going to be fantastic.”

To make that happen he spends several hours a day on rodeo work, but after more than a decade of volunteering at the Stampede, it’s a commitment that comes naturally. It’s also a trait that runs in the family. His father got him hooked on the Stampede when he recruited him to the Indian Events committee. Schneider also has a brother and brother-in-law on the Chuckwagon committee and his wife, Jessica, is the outgoing chair of the Corporate Relations committee.

“Stampede is a talked about affair in our household,” says Schneider.

In what he jokingly calls his real life, the 36-year-old is an investment advisor and partner at GMP Private Client, a full service brokerage firm. He also finds time to serve on the board of governors at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School.

While volunteering is a large part of his life, Schneider also enjoys going for rides in the country with his wife and two children Matt, six, and Will, four, or taking in a game of polo.

“There’s nothing better than spending time with my kids and just being a dad.”
