Bridge and tunnel
In June 2009, construction of a new tunnel under Spiller Road and a new bridge across the Elbow River was completed.
These new roadways help lessen traffic congestion in Ramsay and the Beltline, and improve access to the south east corner of Stampede Park.
This project was also an essential first step for several other development projects.
In June 2010, the bridge was named Christie Crossing in honour of former Stampede president Nat Christie.
BMO Centre expansion
In 2007, the Calgary Stampede began construction on an expansion project that included a new 50,000-square-foot exhibition hall. The $50 million Roundup Centre expansion project was fully funded by Government of Alberta capital grants.
The building, renamed BMO Centre in June 2009, is the centerpiece of Stampede Park's extensive collection of exhibition facilities, which hosts more than 800,000 visitors at 600 events throughout the year.
The expansion was a key step in the plan to transform Stampede Park into a year-round gathering place and destination. The facilitiy will be used for consumer trade shows, business meetings and international events like WorldSkills 2009 and the biannual Global Petroleum Show.
