With an eight-block expansion added in January 2006, Stampede Park now extends north to 12 Avenue SE, west to MacLeod Trail, south to 25 Avenue SE, and east to the bottom of Scotsman Hill.
In developing our future plans, we challenged ourselves, our designers, and our planners to think not just about the additional 43 acres, but ways to re-energize this historic location.
Our vision is to make Stampede Park a year-round destination, attracting Calgarians and visitors from around the world to a unique western experience through festival space, shops, restaurants, and all kinds of entertainment. We will transform Stampede Park into a multi-use community park; a green oasis in the heart of the city.
As part of the development, an Olds College Calgary Campus was opened in 2006, and the new Stampede Casino, owned by a third-party partner, opened in June 2008. In June 2009, the Roundup Centre expansion was completed and the new facility was renamed BMO Centre.
Other recently announced projects include a new, state-of-the-art agriculture facility, a major public art program and Stampede Trail, a retail and entertainment development.
Over the coming years, many other exciting changes will solidify Stampede Park as a vibrant gathering place for all Calgarians and their guests to enjoy. These plans will bring Calgarians new opportunities; whether for work or play. The Calgary Stampede is building a legacy that will benefit Calgary well into the next century.
